On Zog’s Blog

Over at Newsday, Bob Herzog has started a blog to follow the New York Yankees through the playoffs. He's using the Blogger engine to put together the site, which Newsday is inserting into its page template. Design-wise, it isn't much to look at, but it's still good to see another newspaper give blogging a shot.

As for the writing, it's still too early to tell. Herzog's first post, on what players feel like when their in the postseason at Yankee Stadium, sounds too much like a notebook item you'd find in a newspaper. Even worse, it was written before yesterday's game in the Bronx, and he hasn't bothered to update it since.

If I were in Herzog's shoes, I would have used his access to give us real-time commentary during the game, and perhaps some idea of what it was like in the Yankees clubhouse afterwards. It's that sort of first person account that would make his blog worthwhile. I hope he makes some changes.
