Congratulations to Jimmy Patsos, who after 13 seasons working as an assistant head basketball coach under Gary Williams at the University of Maryland, has been named head coach at Loyola of Baltimore.
Why notice at all? Because Patsos and I are both members of the class of 1989 at Washington, D.C.'s Catholic University. Always happy to see a fellow alum make it big.
To say that the task ahead of him is large is an understatement. The Greyhounds, of the famous MAAC conference, were the doormat this season, finishing with 1 win against 26 losses. Watching them play against the other Catholic schools in the MAAC is always a pleasure; Niagara and Canisius from my native WNY went 4-0 against them this year (their only win was against the Marist Red Foxes).
