Angelos Creates An Opening?

In a short interview with the AP, Baltimore Orioles owner said that he would "grudgingly" accept a move by the Montreal Expos to Washington, D.C. David Pinto thinks this is a significant concession, but as I've said before, I'll believe the Expos are coming to Washington when I'm sitting in a seat in RFK Stadium on Opening Day 2005.

This isn’t surprising to me this week for some reason. Selig was on “Mike & the Mad Dog” last week, and he said that Peter Angelos hadn’t ever said he would be against this. He also said that this would be decided in July or August. We shall see.

The entire “Angelos might sue if they move the Expos to Washington” argument was a media fabrication. Angelos is a particularly nasty tort lawyer, but there are simply *no grounds* for any such lawsuit if they move a National League team to Baltimore. The Major League Constitution assigns no such territorial rights. And Angelos suing his fellow owners is not like suing a tobacco company — he still has to work with these people.

You should be sitting in RFK for Opening Day 2005. I think Freddy Adu will be great form around that time.

  4. Dwight Baker says:

It won’t be at RFK permanently, they’ve already got plans for a new ballpark, they just need the word GO.

I’m sure if Angelos extracts a nice, hefty multimillion dollar compensation fee from either the Washington NL ownership group and/or MLB, he’ll “grudgingly” accept that, and a DC team too.

As for suing people you still have to work with, I don’t think Al Davis ever got that memo….
