The Lowdown On A.J. Pierzynski

Major league catcher A.J. Pierzynski has been getting a bad rap for the past few years, and if this report from the San Francisco Chronicle is to be believed, it's well deserved.

During a Giants exhibition game last spring, Pierzynski took a shot to his, shall we say, private parts. Trainer Stan Conte rushed to the scene, placed his hands on Pierzynski's shoulders in a reassuring way, and asked how it felt. "Like this," said Pierzynski, viciously delivering a knee to Conte's groin . . . The incident went unreported because all of the beat writers happened to be doing in-game interviews in the clubhouse, but it was corroborated by a half-dozen eyewitnesses who could hardly believe their eyes. Said one source, as reliable as they come: "There is absolutely no doubt that it happened."

Nice. I hadn’t heard that one. I imagine that there other stories of this….ilk from locker rooms across America.

    Ouch.

  3. Ted says:

Not surprising. When he was on the Twins, he was a clubhouse cancer. We don’t miss him one bit.

I never thought AJ was a “cancer” when he was with the Twins. He sure did piss-off opposing teams, but there were only a couple of incidents with teammates, and they were minor — soon to be forgotten.

This story though is bizarre. And if true, no team should go near him. Poor White Sox…
