Robinson And The Home Run That Wasn’t

Tom Boswell wanted to give Frank Robinson a pat on the back after getting umpires to overturn Brian Jordan's home run in yesterday's Braves-Nats game.

Chris Needham doesn't want to hear any of it.

There's a reason why he calls his blog Capitol Punishment.

  1. Beau says:

Since I’m a Braves fan, you can probably guess how I feel about that play. Frankly, it shows how bad baseball umpires really are. They could have waddled out there to see (A) that there’s no other explanation for the way the ball bounced and (B) there was a mark on the pole.

So congratulations, Gnats relievers, fans and management, for making a mockery of that game.

On another note — does anyone else think it’s kind of strange that this society is getting so puritanical in many respects, yet no one blinks an eye any more when overly flattering comments are automatically translated as “fellate” in the blogosphere? Am I the only one who thinks that’s (A) unnecessary and (B) nowhere near as clever as this guy thinks it is?

  2. Meh. Chris is plenty clever, and his description—well admittedly crude—is a pretty accurate assessment of Boz’s critical properties as the Nats’ main columnist.

    As for this:
So congratulations, Gnats relievers, fans and management, for making a mockery of that game.

As the infamous Randall would inquire, “Are you the biggest idiot ever?”

It was a horrible call; it was even more than that: there was no reason to overturn the first call, when it was pretty reasonable and pretty close.

But are you kidding? What is Frobby going to do? Say, “No no, we don’t want that run!”? And what do the Nats’ fans have to do with this dreaded mockery of the game?
