Alan Hahn of Newsday is reporting that yesterday's news from the Toronto Globe and Mail concerning the outline of a salary cap agreement between players and ownership is just plain wrong:
Those working within the negotiating room were annoyed by the report -- "As screwed up as most 'reports'," said one person involved in the situation -- which was not the first premature report by the media during this lockout. With an agreement on the horizon, anything said lately by the parties directly involved in collective bargaining has had a delicate, cautious tone."We're working in small groups and subcommittees over the days to come," the person said. "There won't be any piecemeal reports about what's resolved and what's remaining. The process really doesn't benefit from that kind of analysis."
Stay tuned. It isn't like you haven't had your hopes crushed before, right?

I dunno, Eric. The guy quoted in Newsday *never said* that the report (of salary cap agreement) was *wrong*. He said they were annoyed that it was publicized, and that they weren’t the ones to publicize it.
Sounds like a non-denial denial to me. I’d be inclined to believe the parties HAVE reached agreement on the cap, but as was reported yesterday, there are a bunch of other issues to be resolved before NHL hockey will be played again.
Earlier today I “bumped” into Ken Daniels with a friend and we inquired about the hockey league and if there will be a season next year. Ken Daniels does play by play announcing with Mickey Redmond for Fox Sports Net in the Detroit area for pretty much all of our Wings’ games. I’m not one to spread rumors. But he said that after talking with many agents and GMs (but not the Red Wings’ GM, Ken Holland) that a deal should be signed in the next couple weeks and we’ll have a season in October. Take it as you will (probably with a grain of salt), but I thought I’d leave a comment. And I sure hope he’s right!
