Over the weekend, we saw a number of reports that seemed to confirm Wayne Gretzky's version of events regarding his knowledge of Rick Tocchet's alleged gambling activities. Click here for an account from the AP, and here for some more from Newsday's Alan Hahn.
UPDATE: In case you didn't already know, being a public figure like Gretzky is no picnic. And in that vein, here's Norm Clarke from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Whew.
Putting things in perspective, this disturbs me. Of course no one on the NJPD or anyone involved in the investigation will ever admit this, but it seems like the only reason they anonymously made the wiretap knowledge public was to put Gretzky on the hot seat. Of course, if they’d made it public knowledge that the wiretap occured after the investigation had been made public and Tocchet and Jones had been served with papers, it wouldn’t mean anything, as it’d just sound like a husband concerned with his wife’s safety after finding out something that very day about her.
