James Mirtle is moderating a discussion on why there really isn't any sort of race for the Calder in the NHL this season, and while it might be interesting, there is any easier way to see why Alex Ovechkin is the runaway winner over Sidney Crosby and the rest of the field.
And you don't even have to take my word for it.
Here's the Crosby video. While there are some fine moments, I hope you brought some caffeine:
And from the greatest hits file, Alex says, "How you like me now?"
Don't get me wrong -- any other year, Crosby wins this going away. Sid the kid is having a great year by any reasonable standard, and he should have been on the Canadian Olympic Team. As I've written before, the Crosby bashing has been completely unjustified. And if there hadn't been a lockout, Ovechkin most likely would have been the 2004-05 Calder winner, with Sid taking it for 2005-06.
He's cleary ticketed for really big things, and I'm looking forward to seeing these two go at each other for years to come. But for now, Alex is on top. At least until Sid takes a shot at knocking him off the top of the mountain.

Oops. Wrong lyric link. I’m pretty sure that’s the Crystal Method tune.
God, I can’t watch that enough.
