Now that's one date in history I never need an excuse to revisit:
Simply the most exciting regular season game of all time.
When Darren McCarty is on his death bed, I'm guessing this is one of the nights he'll be thinking about.

I can’t remembere a game during the height of a rivalry in any sport that matches that reg. season game between DET and COL.
It’s easy to forget just how BAD the blood was. It was bad enough coaches were nearly getting into it with players from the other team. And then that game happened at the Joe and COL never truly was the same after it.
So rare do you see revenge served up in sports that way anymore. They’re all so emotionally unattached to the city, fans, and teams that they can’t get worked into a literaly frenzy and rage like DET did eventually. And truth be told, it was the best thing to happen to the NHL at the time, and probably the most-vicious rivalry modern-day sports will ever see.
With player loyalty down even more and a lot of the rough, nasty stuff creeping out of the game, we may never see an equal of that game again. When Roy gave up the infamous “Statue of Liberty goal”, that era and rivalry 100% ended.
