Monday’s Caps Practice

The Caps scouts are in the building today, and word is they'll be playing a game after the Caps practice.

Over at the Post Tarik has posted the lines for practice, and it doesn't look good for Brooks Laich. Not 20 minutes after his post, the first comment read, "Goodbye Brooks Laich. Been nice knowing you."

The guys are split into white and navy jerseys for practice instead of the usual line and D colors, so here's hoping for a little scrimmage action.

The Caps are running the same drill as last week, putting about a dozen guys in the offensive zone and making the offense work to feed the puck to the guy in the slot. It looks about as unorganized as an NHL drill could get, but it really does take a lot of work to do right.

* Wish granted; the boys split up into their 2 teams and are scrimmaging. Again Coach Hanlon is giving advice and instruction before face-offs. A couple times intead of even setting up for a face-off, he's put them in position for odd-man rushes and breakouts.

* A short break to resurface the ice, and the boys are back out.

* The second half scrimmage is looking sharp. Kozlov, Ovechkin, and Fleischmann are skating together again, and it looks like the chemistry is getting even better.

* The fire alarm has gone off, and no one seems to care. Practice is continuing, the fans haven't budged, and the guys in the press room, myself included, are still typing away. No smoke, no fire, no problem.

* Chris Bourque is impressing again, and I've decided he will be my personal favorite this season, along with Tom Poti, whether he makes the team or not. Before moving on to prep hockey, Poti went to my high school alma mater, St. Peter-Marian of Worcester, Mass., explaining my personal interest in him.

* The level of fan dedication is impressive, as I'm looking at a guy wearing last years practice jersey, watching practice with both index fingers in his ears, trying to block out what he can from this fire alarm, which is still going off, quite loudly I might add.

* The fire alarm has been going off for at least 15 minutes now. I would like to know what happens when a building actually catches on fire in Arlington, seeing as they can't deal with an alarm at Ballston Commons in a timely manner. Although Mike Vogel has pointed out that there are probably several cats stuck in trees this time of the year.
