Last week, I picked up on a story that had been percolating for a while on the Web concerning how once NHL Center Ice subscriber in Brooklyn had discovered that since upgrading to a Series 3 TiVo DVR, the device had started to auto-delete games he was recording before they ever finished.
This morning, I got a call from an NHL official who declined to be identified who wanted to address the issue. She told me the following:
* The NHL has no policy restricting the use of NHL Center Ice content on TiVo or any other brand of DVRs and it isn't planning on creating one.
* What's happening now has nothing to do with the NHL. The NHL never requested that its content be copy protected in this way.
* The league is looking into the problem and will be contacting TiVo shortly in order to find a solution.
So there's the official word. I'll keep checking back with the league for updates.

this was happening to me too. I posted about it over on mile high hockey. The links to my gripe sessions are http://www.milehighhockey.com/story/2007/10/9/12617/4437

Basically TiVo said that there was no reason for the games to be copyright protected and they would have the investigation department call me in a couple of days. During those couple of days, I found out that since I have the TiVo HD that uses CableCards, I was unable to get the Center Ice package. It was considered a pay-per-view service, not a subscription service, and because of that, I had to have 2-way communication with the ‘mothership’. The CableCards on the market are only 1-way, so I’m out of luck. TiVo did call me back though after a couple of days. I told them my story and they didn’t believe that I couldn’t get Center Ice. I’ve given up on it for now. I actually get a couple of things done around the house now, but damn I do miss me some hockey…
