Backstrom tries to make a shot from the ground in a last-ditch effort to break the tie. The Caps scored two goals in the first period, but then allowed Islander goals in both the second and third periods. In the third round of a shootout, Mike Comrie earned the win for New York.

Backstrom helps Olie out with a save. Kolzing allowed a goal halfway through the second period, so the Caps headed into the third with a 2-1 lead.
